Our Mission
Maria Moon Music is a community-focused charity founded on 30 April 2025 that champions expressive music-making and learning in informal spaces and places, rather than traditional classrooms or exam-led settings.
The charity exists to bring the power of music directly into homes, community venues and everyday environments, using music as a practical tool for wellbeing, connection and confidence-building across local communities.
At the heart of Maria Moon Music is the belief that music-making belongs to every child and family, regardless of background, income or prior experience.
The charity focuses on building lifelong musical identity, helping children and adults see themselves as capable music-makers, not just audiences, so that music becomes part of daily life and not an occasional extra.

Music as Social Glue
To achieve this, Maria Moon Music provides practical tools, guidance and hands-on workshops for families, including those who are home educating, so they can take ownership of their musical learning. Families are supported to sing, play and explore music together, creating shared experiences that strengthen relationships, build confidence and support children’s learning across other areas of life.

The charity develops and shares:
-
Resources and workshops for singing and music-making at home.
-
Activities tailored for home-educating families to deepen impact during key formative years.
-
Simple tips that help families create their own musical traditions, connecting generations through song, rhythm and sound.
-
Neurodiverse-friendly music activities designed to engage and regulate without overwhelm, supporting communication and emotional expression.
Empowering Music
By equipping parents, carers, residents and frontline workers to lead musical experiences at home, in schools and in community settings, Maria Moon Music creates a ripple effect that continues well beyond any single project or session. This approach gives children and adults a strong foundation for creative self-expression, emotional wellbeing and social connection, particularly in communities where access to formal music provision is limited.

The charity works alongside organisations, schools, community groups, parents, carers and individual residents to co-design and deliver inclusive, participatory music-making. Through these partnerships, Maria Moon Music uses music to inspire collaboration, reduce isolation, and nurture a sense of belonging, joy and shared ownership of creative spaces within local neighbourhoods.

Singing Heals
Singing and choir singing practice offer profound physical, psychological, and social benefits for people across the lifespan—from childhood through to old age. The act of singing exercises the lungs, tones respiratory muscles, and improves posture and circulation, which enhances overall physical health and lung function. Singing stimulates the immune system by increasing levels of antibodies that help fight infections, contributing to better general health and even prolonged life expectancy.

Psychologically, singing releases endorphins and reduces stress hormones like cortisol, improving mood, lowering anxiety, and promoting relaxation. It enhances cognitive function by stimulating memory, concentration, and language skills, making it especially beneficial for young learners and older adults, including those with dementia. Group singing fosters a sense of community, belonging, and emotional support, which helps reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness—key factors in mental wellbeing at all ages.

Singing Across All Ages
Choir participation boosts confidence and social skills through collective music-making, offering opportunities for intergenerational connection and shared cultural experiences. This social interaction coupled with the physical and mental stimulation from singing reinforces overall quality of life. Studies on senior choirs show members experience fewer doctor visits, less depression, improved mental alertness, and a stronger sense of purpose and joy.

In summary, singing nurtures creative self-expression, emotional health, physical wellbeing, and social connectedness, making it a powerful practice to promote holistic health throughout the life course—from youth to old age.
